Please remember, as a Full member, if you are unable to attend you should advise the Luncheon Secretary John Hunt at the latest by midday on the THURSDAY beforehand (7th April). If you are an Occasional or Waiting member please advise him should you wish to attend the lunch, again at the latest by midday on the THURSDAY beforehand.
Tuesday 17th May 2022. Our May outing is a trip to London by train and a tour of The Charterhouse in the City of London. Today the Charterhouse is home to a community of Brothers. However, its story is much more than the story of the almshouses as we will hear on the guided tour of this fascinating historical gem hidden in the heart of London.
It is with great sadness that we have to report that Malcolm Sanger died last Monday evening. Malcolm had been ill with non-smokers lung cancer and was undergoing treatment for that. Almost three weeks ago he was taken into Pembury with various blood clots and pneumonia. He was discharged last Friday but took a turn for the worse over the weekend and was being taken into hospital again on Monday evening but died in the ambulance.

Two lawns are reserved for our use on the following Tuesdays starting on 10th May 2022 (from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm). The charge this year will be £6 per person.
A date for your diary – Thursday 21st April 2022 . Some of you will recall the excellent tours we had pre-covid of Fishmongers and Skinners Livery halls in the City of London. We are fortunate to have now been able to arrange a visit to the Merchant Taylor’s Hall in Threadneedle Street (more famously known as the Bank of England’s address (photo above). We will enjoy coffee and a 1 1/2 hour tour of the hall and afterwards lunch in a famous old City pub.
After having to cancel last month’s luncheon due to covid fears, with concerns about the Omicron variant now decreasing, the Golf club have confirmed that they plan “business as usual” for events during February so we will be able to hold our usual monthly luncheon as scheduled on Monday 14th February 2022. If you are happy to venture out we look forward to seeing you then.
Last Autumn the visits to Trinity Theatre and the Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells proved popular with members. So to kick-off the Outings programme for this year we have arranged a discounted ticket price for the production of A Murder is announced at The Assembly Hall Theatre on Friday 1st April 2022.
We are pleased to advise that Ashdown Probus Golf Society has arranged a Spring and an Autumn Golf meeting this year.
Spring: 22nd and 23rd May 2022 at the London Beach Hotel, Tenterden, TN30 6HX.
Autumn: 25th to 27th September 2022 at the Cottesmore Hotel Golf and Country Club, Pease Pottage, RH11 9AT.
We would like to invite you to this year’s President’s Lunch, on March 10th, at the High Rocks Restaurant, 12:30 pm for 13:00 pm. This President’s lunch will be a slightly different occasion, in that we will be thanking two Presidents for their contribution and excellent stewardship of the Club. As we were unable to hold this function last year due the COViD pandemic, we will, this year, be thanking both David Scaife and Andrew Fermor, and also welcoming the incoming President, Brian Hughes.
