In view of the dreadful weather this week and hazardous travel conditions, your committee has decided to postpone this year’s Christmas lunch, and to reschedule for early 2023, on a date to be established.

600 years ago most craftsmen in London were itinerant. However the manuscript writers and illuminators decided to concentrate their efforts and set up stalls or ‘stations’ around St Paul’s Cathedral. Because of this they were given the nickname ‘Stationers’ and this was the obvious choice of name for the guild they established in 1403. You may initially have seen this outing listed as Wednesday 8th February but due to a clash of dates at Stationers Hall we have now rescheduled this outing for TUESDAY 7th February 2023.

There was a good turnout of Members who gathered for our Monthly Lunch at Crowborough Beacon Golf Club on Monday 14th November. This was the date of our Annual quiz, hosted by Ray Jackson and our knowledge and memories were severely tested with thirty difficult and varied questions. Congratulations and prizes went to the winning team made up of John Cozens, Brian Marshall, Jim Ringe and David Penn.

You will have received a short survey via a separate Mailchimp email. This is relating to proposed Club Outings. Please take some time and give your committee feedback as we look to arrange a calendar of Outings for next year. The deadline for submitting your response is Friday 11th November 2022. Many thanks.

Our next lunch is scheduled at Crowborough Beacon Golf Club at the usual time of 12.00 for 12.30, with the following revised menu:

Main: Beef cobbler followed by dessert: Treacle tart with ice cream plus Coffee.

The price remains at £25.00 to be paid by card at the bar.

There will not be a speaker this month, as November is traditionally the month for our quiz. I’m delighted to confirm that last year’s quizmaster Mr Ray Jackson has kindly prepared another quiz for us, and is in process of buying suitable prizes for the winning team.
Lunch will be followed by our Annual quiz, quizmaster Ray Jackson.

This year’s Christmas Celebration will once again be held at the High Rocks restaurant, at 12:00 for 12:30 p.m., Wednesday 14th December 2022. The cost is £35.00 per person for a three course traditional Christmas lunch, wine on the table and a small gift for the ladies. There will also be a Christmas fare raffle with prizes of alcoholic spirits, wine and luxury chocolates, getting the Christmas season off to a good start.
