Your Treasurer Peter Barker is writing to all members separately following approval at the AGM to collect the Annual Subscription for 2024/25. The amount of subscription payable was agreed at £25 per annum.
Expenses incurred by the Club have risen considerably during the last few years and it is now essential for us to repeat the request for a Member’s subscription.
Our Ashdown Probus Club, after a five year interval, returned to the Hydro Hotel, Eastbourne, on Wednesday 27th March 2024 for the President’s Lunch.
A sunny morning – making a pre-Lunch promenade possible – was followed later by characteristic 2024 weather: a rainy afternoon and almost gale force winds! But within the Hydro: a stylish hotel – we enjoyed a warm and comfortable environment.
The President’s Lunch is an Annual event, which on this occasion was held both to celebrate Michael Sander’s year as President, and also to welcome our incoming President, Phil Watson, who will take up his office on Monday 8 April 2024.
Next month’s luncheon will be followed by the Club’s Annual General Meeting.
Yes, 1974 was also the year of the Rubik Cube. Something some of us are still trying to master 50 years on! This is to advise that there are several more reminiscences of that year written by Probus members for your to to enjoy. Just go to the Members area drop down menu and select 1974.

If you’ve still not sent in your booking form to Peter Billcliff or your circumstances have changed and you can now attend the President’s lunch at the Hydro Hotel, Mount Rd, Eastbourne, BN20 7HZ, here’s another opportunity to book for this annual event both to celebrate Michael Sander’s year as President and also to welcome incoming President, Phil Watson. The cost per person is £39.00 and includes a pre-lunch drinks reception and a three course lunch, including wine and coffee. We’ll meet at 12.30 pm. for the reception in the Garden Suite where lunch will also be served at 1.00 pm.
1974 – What do you remember of that eventful year? We’re looking to Ashdown Probus members with a wide variety of business backgrounds putting pen to paper and recording what they were doing then and how events that year affected them, their families, careers and life in general.
It is with huge regret that Groombridge Amateur Dramatic Society has had to cancel the play Home I’m Darling in March. This is due to unexpected casting issues. The Society hopes to put the play on at the same time next year.

On 13th December the High Rocks restaurant Tunbridge Wells once again hosted our Club’s Christmas lunch. President Michael Sander welcomed members and guests, particularly the President of the Crowborough Probus Club, Mel Parsons and his wife Ann.
Forty four members and guests then enjoyed traditional Christmas fare followed by a most successful raffle with 24 lucky winners. All ladies went home with a gift-wrapped colourful potted cyclamen.
The next major event in the Probus calendar is the President’s Lunch which is returning to its traditional venue in 2024 – the Hydro Hotel Eastbourne. Plans are well underway and the President is looking for strong support for this, his final event of his year in office. More photos on the post itself.
