On Tuesday 24th October sixteen Ashdown Probus members and partners made their way up to the City of London for a tour of the Apothecaries Hall followed by a pub lunch. We were taken round the hall by the Archivist whose historical knowledge of the livery company and its hall (rebuilt in 1672 on the site of the guest house of the Dominican Priory destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666) made the tour interesting and informative. After the tour the group appropriately decamped for lunch to the Blackfriar pub – the iconic, Grade II wedge-shaped building, with its mosaics, ornamental balconies, and famous guardian black friar above the front door.
