During this glorious weather (long may it last) don’t forget that our monthly Croquet meeting is open to all members and their wives/partners. The group meets on the second Tuesday of each of the Summer months (May to September) for a friendly, gentle, morning’s activity at Royal Tunbridge Wells Croquet Club, Calverley Park, Tunbridge Wells, TN1 2SH. For £7 per player you get two hours play including tea/coffee and cake.

This week 12 players enjoyed croquet action in the sun with the photograph showing a tense moment in one of the matches played.

Your golf committee is pleased to report that another very successful event took place at London Beach Golf Hotel, Tenterden on 21st and 22nd May.

Our Probus Club Vice President, Phil Watson won the men’s cup with an excellent 42 points, and Linds Weatherley made 38 points to pick up the Ladies trophy. (Both pictured above). Congratulations to each of them.

On Thursday 11th May a group of Probus members and wives made the journey to Greenwich and met up with our Blue Badge guide Vanessa Fagan by the Cutty Sark.

On Tuesday 25th April 14 members of Probus ventured south in two minibuses towards Brighton.  Both buses hit traffic jams but we still arrived in good time for a pre-theatre bite to eat.  Pinnochio Italian and a Tapas restaurant next door to the Theatre were both providers of fine fayre and the performance from the Ukraine National Opera started on time at 19.45.  Despite being in the second circle the view was good and the traditional set was a fine backdrop for the splendid singers.  The performance ended with us all standing for an emotional rendition of the Ukraine national anthem.  We were back in Crowborough for about 11 o’clock after a really enjoyable evening.

Due to the Coronation Bank holiday falling on our usual second Monday of the month date the May luncheon will be held on the following Monday 15th May 2023 at Crowborough Beacon Golf Club at 12.00 noon for 12.30 seating.

At the Annual General Meeting on Monday 3rd April Michael Sander was elected President. In his acceptance speech he thanked Brian Hughes for leading the Club in a difficult post-covid period and looked forward to all enjoying a successful Probus year ahead.

The 2023 Ashdown Probus Club President’s Lunch – an Annual Event – took place at The High Rocks Inn, Tunbridge Wells on Wednesday 15th March. It was a friendly and social occasion attended by nearly 50 members and guests including the current Crowborough Probus Club President and his wife.

Brian Hughes, Ashdown Probus President outlined the work that his committee had undertaken to build back the Club and its activities in the post-covid period. He thanked the committee members individually for their successful endeavours.

The incoming President Elect, Michael Sander spoke of plans for the coming year 2023-24 and, thanking Brian and Levitha for their work, made presentations to them on behalf of the Club.

After travel by private minibus from Crowborough to Brighton arriving at around 6.00 pm to give members time for a pre-theatre meal (not included in ticket price), we will attend the evening performance of Puccini’s La Bohème at Theatre Royal, Brighton.

Cost of minibus and theatre ticket: £ 48.35 per person

Due to the Easter Bank holiday falling on our usual second Monday of the month date the April luncheon will be held on Monday 3rd April 2023 at Crowborough Beacon Golf Club at 12.00 noon for 12.30 seating. Lunch will be followed by the 2023 Annual General Meeting.
