Ashdown Probus Golf Society

The Ashdown Probus Golf Society has now scheduled Spring (London Beach Hotel) and Autumn (Selsdon Park Hotel) golf trips in 2020.

The accent is very much on fun golf, and golfers of all standards are very welcome. Non-golfers are also welcome as both venues chosen feature leisure pools and spa facilities.

Made in Dagenham – the Musical

Last Wednesday’s dark, wet evening was transformed for the group of 21 members of the Club and their partners who gathered at the Assembly Halls at Tunbridge Wells to see TWODS latest musical “Made in Dagenham”.

Based on the 2010 film of the same name, “Made in Dagenham” is drawn from the real-life 1968 sewing machinists strike at the Ford factory in Dagenham. A strange subject for a musical, perhaps, but it worked. A lively cast, loads of energy and well-practised choreography made for an excellent production. The standard of the singing, especially among the lead performers, was the icing on the cake. More than one member of the Probus group was heard to say how unsure they had been about going, but how agreeably surprised they were by the quality of the entertainment.

The evening was very ably organised for Probus by Neil Platt. Our hearty thanks go to Neil for all the effort and preparation he put into organising our visit – and for ensuring that we all enjoyed our free drink before the show!

Blue Badge guided London walk

After an earlier postponement due to the July heatwave, on Wednesday 9th October Vanessa Fagan, a Blue Badge guide, led our walk through some of the historical attractions of the City of London. Vanessa is seen here with a display of Roman artefacts from the Temple of Mithras discovered during works on successive buildings on the site in Walbrook.
