Harvey’s Brewery

By 08/11/2019Members Only

The name of Harvey’s is well-known to – even revered by – the drinking men (and women) of Sussex.

Last Thursday evening fifteen members of the Club and their guests (including no less than three of their ladies) took a luxury mini-coach to Lewes to visit Harvey’s Brewery. After a traditional one hour warm up in the pub opposite, we were treated to a tour of the Brewery, an account of its origins and an explanation of just what goes into brewing Harvey’s famous beers.

The quite exceptional eloquence, knowledge and humour of our guide made the two hours of the tour fly by. His rapid-fire but absorbing delivery meant that we had well over an hour to sample the different beers on offer. So engrossed did some become in that task that the coach driver had to phone to call us away.

All this was arranged by Neil Platt for the members of the Club. Our sincere thanks to Neil for all the work and organization he put into arranging a truly memorable outing.

AND – we now have official confirmation that Ashdown Probus Club can organize a p**s up in a brewery!

One or two photographs of the event may be viewed in the website Gallery.
