Autumn meeting 22nd to 24th September 2019
Fifteen golfers enjoyed the visit to Broome Park Golf and Country Club near Canterbury. Broome Park was the home of Lord Kitchener of Khartoum and the house and estate proved to be an excellent venue both for golf and accommodation.
Some members enjoyed spacious suites in the main house while one couple upgraded to a luxurious lodge in the house’s extensive grounds. On both evenings, all met in the bar to discuss the golfing feats of the day followed by dinner in a private room where we enjoyed a menu of excellently prepared and presented dishes.
Unfortunately, due to a serious weather warning for the final day’s competition, both team and individual competitions were played together on Monday 23rd but in spite of this the scores were impressive.
On Monday evening Chairman Peter Billcliff presented the prizes. The winner of the Ladies Salver was Eunice Hutchinson with 40 points beating Linda Kings (39 points) and Eunice Hutchinson (38 points) It was noted that these three ladies are all members of Nevill Golf Club!!
The team winners were Levitha Hughes (drawn as a wild card), Eunice Hutchinson, John Kings and Peter Billcliff with 93 points narrowly beating Linda Kings, Sylvia Billcliff, Brian Hughes and Stuart Weatherley with 91 points (scoring was based on best 2 from 4 on each hole). In 3rd place were Terry Conby, Levitha Hughes, Tom Hutchinson and Paul Black.
The Winner of the Jeff Hughes Cup was our very own Chairman Peter Billcliff with 38 points followed by Brian Hughes (36 points) and Tom Hutchinson (34 points) the last two also being Nevill members!!
Thanks were expressed to the committee with a special appreciation to Stuart Weatherley for ensuring that everything went smoothly during the event.
