March 2021

It is a year now since our lives were radically changed; we learned to live a new life style and during the fine days of summer with one or two false starts, for meeting family and eating out, we adjusted to the “new normal” but the dark days and “lockdown” of winter have tested our patience and resolve.

Spring is just about here, the days are lengthening and the clocks change at the end of this month. I have been in the garden over the past couple of days and have enjoyed  the sunshine, Snowdrops, Crocuses and Daffodils that are in bloom. The daily news sounds promising and I expect most of you will be making plans of one sort or another, at least in your minds, for times to come.

The Ashdown Probus Club has flowed in the same vein, our last Luncheon was over a year ago, in February 2020, we were about to have a President’s Lunch at the end of March 2020 followed by an April AGM Lunch. In summer we had a couple of walks for the Tuesday & Friday groups and the committee were beginning to believe we might have a summer picnic.

Looking ahead, on a positive note, the committee are contacting the Golf Club and the Hydro Hotel, Eastbourne. I do not see our way to holding Lunches until much later in the summer but golf starts at the end of March and we need to remind the Golf Club we are still interested in their venue.

We have a booking at the Hydro Hotel for a President’s Lunch on 7th July, will this be possible, will members wish to attend a crowded environment by then or is it still too early?

I ask the above question in the hope that there will be some feedback and you, the members, give us some of your thoughts.
