August luncheon

An Ashdown Probus Club luncheon

37 Full members attended and enjoyed our first gathering for lunch at the golf club for 18 months. From the feedback I have received it would seem that it is time to socialise once again. After meeting at the golf club at 12 noon I was surprised when I looked at my watch to see that time had slipped away to 12.40 pm and no-one had yet started a move to the dining room – too much to catch up on meeting friends once again.

The turnout was large enough to prove that it is viable to continue these lunches as long as the rules allow! The Golf Club with new staff and a new contactless payment system came up trumps and the new chef served up an excellent lunch.

Most members paid by card, only six with cash and I now believe this is definitely the way to continue.

An after lunch speaker will be introduced next month and Ray Jackson has lined up a speaker to talk on “Kent in the Civil War” on Monday 13th September.

The Ashdown Probus Club now has three Walking groups and both the Croquet group and the Golf Society all back in operation. Please check the website https://www.ashdownprobus.org for further details of each activity.

The summer picnic on Tuesday 24th August 2021 already has a large number of members signed up (may the weather be kind to us) but there are still spaces available https://ashdownprobus.org.uk/function/annual-picnic/.

There are also spaces available on the first Probus outing for 18 months – to the Bluebell Vineyard for a tour and wine tasting on Wednesday  15th September 2021. You can find full details and a booking form on https://ashdownprobus.org.uk/function/bluebell-vineyard-tour-and-ploughmans-lunch-on-bluebell-railway/

I shall not be with you for our next lunch on Monday 13th September, a family week away beckons, in the meantime I wish everyone an enjoyable summer programme, there is much to look forward to.
