I was seven on VE Day and had what I am sure was an experience shared by many, perhaps including some of our members.
We lived near Faversham, Kent, and my Uncle Will, of whom I was very fond, took me to London when the King & Queen were due to appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
We made our way to St James’s Park (I retain a vivid recollection of the water fowl, particularly the friendly ducks) and were near the Victoria Memorial to see the appearance of the Royal Family. Such an exciting day out, which I remember well, with a significance of which I fear I was not fully aware at the time. I saw it all from Uncle Wills shoulders!
