After a splendid lunch at Ye Olde Watling Pub on Monday members of Ashdown Probus Club and their Partners felt sufficiently fortified for an official visit to Skinners’ Hall in Dowgate Hill.

The Worshipful Company of Skinners is 6th or 7th (depending which year it is) in the pecking order of 110 livery companies, and the richness of their history, their premises and their collections on display amply underline their seniority.

We were shown round the Hall by the Beadle in his full regalia – an honour in itself, as only three days a year are set aside for visits such as these.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the tour, a fitting sequel to the previous outing to Fishmongers’ Hall. The visit was once again organized by Phil Parker in his accustomed friendly and efficient style. Thank you again, Phil, for a superb day out. Next time perhaps the Palace?!
